An Inside Look at Olympian Clayton Young’s Taper Leading to a Top 10 Finish at the NYC Marathon
Before taking on the world’s best at the 2024 NYC Marathon, Olympian Clayton Young shared a new video covering Week 9 of his 12 week marathon build.
In this pivotal week, Clayton focused on reducing mileage and intensifying precision, tailoring every session to optimize performance. With Stryd, he was able to analyze how his body was adapting, refining details in his taper phase for maximum readiness.
“The taper is in full swing, which means less miles and shorter workouts. On Tuesday, we did 2x4 miles at just faster than marathon pace. On Wednesday, we did our second day of shoe testing in the BYU Biomechanics lab with Dr. Iain Hunter. Lab testing combined with the Stryd data has been super helpful to determine what the best ASICS racing shoe is for me.”
Watch the full video to see how Clayton dials in his taper plan and strategically uses data to achieve 7th place at the NYC Marathon, powering his way to a top finish against some of the world’s best runners.
