History Made Over 25 Laps | Watch Jaden Merrick Move to #10 US HS All-Time List
Watch Jaden's Historic 10K Run
After years of waiting, high school senior Jaden Merrick finally got his shot at the 10K on one of the biggest stages in the country: the Drake Relays. Then severe weather rolled in, shutting the meet down and pushing the race back 27 hours.
When the runners finally got back on the track the next night, the plan was simple: stay patient early, settle in with the front pack of 29:20 and 29:30 guys, and make a move late if the legs were there. Jaden executed it to perfection.
He crossed the line in 29:36 to win the Drake Relays 10K and move into the top 10 all-time among U.S. high school athletes in the event. One of the fastest high school 10Ks ever run on American soil.
Jaden opened with a controlled 14:55 through the first 5K, then closed in 14:41 for a rare negative split at this distance. Calm, composed, and in control through all 25 laps.
