21 Miles at 8,500 Feet | Boston Marathon Prep Starts Now
Fresh off a historic fall and a new 100K American record, Charlie Lawrence now shifts his focus to the Boston Marathon this April.
Boston demands durability. Long downhills, relentless impact, and the kind of pounding that can decide the race before Heartbreak Hill. To prepare, Charlie headed to Rollinsville, Colorado for a 21-mile long run starting at 9,100 feet, descending through Peak to Peak Highway and Magnolia Road. The result: 2,400 feet of loss, 1,400 feet of gain, averaging 6:08 pace at 8,500 feet elevation.
This wasn’t just a long run. It was a Boston simulation with net downhill miles, sustained effort at altitude, and a deep dive into Stryd metrics like Leg Spring Stiffness and Impact Loading Rate to measure durability, because Boston prep is not just about pace, it is about handling impact over 26.2 miles, and Stryd helps Charlie train smarter and build the resilience to finish strong
