Stryd Labs Update | Form Profile: A Clearer View of Your Running Form

Stryd Labs Update | Form Profile: A Clearer View of Your Running Form

In August, we introduced Form Profile in Stryd Labs, giving runners a new way to understand the unique characteristics of how they run.

Now, Form Profile has been updated with a new way to understand the relationship between Protection and Performance, clearer context for your scores, and more opportunities for your running to contribute to your profile.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s new.

New | Understand Your Protection & Performance

Form Profile now organizes your running form along a broader Protection and Performance spectrum, helping you understand how the five attributes of your running form contribute to each.

Each attribute is color-coded to show whether it contributes more toward Protection, Performance, or both.

Your scores are shown on a 0–100% scale and compared against runners like you based on factors such as age, sex, and current fitness level. A score of 50% represents the midpoint for your comparison group, rather than an average across all runners. Scores above or below 50% show where you stand relative to similar runners, giving you clearer context for understanding your running form.

At a glance, the spider chart brings all five attributes together, highlighting your strengths and showing where there may be opportunities to improve your speed, efficiency, and resilience.

New | See What Shapes Your Protection & Performance

Five attributes make up your Form Profile, with each contributing to your Protection and Performance scores in different ways. Together, they give you a more detailed look at the mechanics behind your overall profile and where you may have opportunities to improve.

Shock Protection

Describes how much force your body takes on, and how abruptly that force builds up. Better protection can help you manage training load with more resilience. Improve it: Strength, mobility, and controlled impact-tolerance work. Contributes to: Protection (most)

Landing Control

Describes how gently or harshly your foot strikes the ground with each step. Better control can help reduce sharp impacts and keep each step consistent.
Improve it: Single-leg strength, controlled landing drills, and clean foot-placement practice.
Contributes to: Protection (second most)

Rhythm

Describes how quickly and smoothly your steps cycle. A better rhythm can help reduce braking and make pace changes feel more fluid.
Improve it: Turnover drills, quick contacts, and strength that supports a faster step cycle.
Contributes to: Protection and Performance (equally)

Forward Drive

Describes how well your stride directs effort forward instead of upward. Better drive can help reduce excess bounce and support efficient running.
Improve it: Hip/leg strength, hill work, acceleration drills, and exercises that reinforce pushing the ground back.
Contributes to: Performance (second most)

Elastic Power

Describes how well your legs store and return energy with each step. A better spring can help you spend less time on the ground and run more efficiently. Improve it: Calf/soleus strength, plyometrics, hill strides, and quick force-return drills.
Contributes to: Performance (most)

New | More Opportunities to Build Your Form Profile

It’s now easier to build your Form Profile, with a wider range of your running able to contribute to your scores.

Scores can now be generated from a wider range of qualifying runs, giving you more opportunities to build your Form Profile through your regular training.

As your Form Profile builds, you can follow how your running form changes over time with Form Profile Trends. Your Form Profile updates every Monday based on your recent running, making it easier to track changes across each metric as your training progresses.
