On the Laces: Hidden Gains with Olympian Val Constien

Watch Episode 2 of On the Laces with Val Constien | Out Now

After kicking off her outdoor season with a 1500m at Bryan Clay, Val heads to the Stryd Performance Lab to sit down with the team and dig into the data.

They take a look at the past year of training, and the impact of a full year of double-threshold work is showing up across every mechanical metric. From April 2025 to April 2026, leg spring stiffness at threshold pace improved by 8%, while impact loading rate dropped by 12%. Val is getting more out of every stride while taking less punishment with every step.

Even her easy runs tell the story. Cadence is lower, ground contact time is down, and vertical oscillation has increased. She’s running more powerfully, more efficiently, and with better mechanics than she was a year ago.
