Stepping Down from Ultras to the Marathon | Episode 2: On the Laces with Charlie Lawrence
Episode 2 | Watch the Full Video
Five weeks out from Boston, Charlie Lawrence races the New York City Half to gauge his fitness mid-build. He sharpens his speed with a key pre-race session, dialing in effort, leg turnover, and race readiness while balancing high mileage.
As he transitions from ultra racing to the marathon, Charlie focuses on top-end speed and efficiency at faster paces, building on the endurance developed from 50-mile and 100K racing. His training emphasizes VO2 max, 10K to half marathon efforts, and downhill preparation for Boston.
Back in the lab, Charlie and the Stryd team analyze data from his Mesa and New York Half Marathons, revealing a clear jump in fitness. With consistent mechanics and increased power output, the data highlights improved performance even in tougher conditions.
This is the next step in Charlie’s build to the Boston Marathon this spring and the Comrades Marathon this summer. Subscribe to the Stryd YouTube channel to follow the series and catch Episode 3.
