Closer Look | Adaptive Training Gives You Flexibility Every Day with Generated Alternatives

Our new Adaptive Training system includes the ability to generate alternative workouts options called: Generated Alternatives.

This feature extends the flexibility of Adaptive Training by giving you up to three workout options to choose from: an easier alternative, a comparable alternative to your recommended workout, and a harder variation.

Each option is specifically designed for your current fitness level and training context to give you control over and variety in your daily training!


What Generated Alternatives Does

Generated Alternatives uses the same technology as Stryd’s Generated Workouts to create intelligent workout options within your Adaptive Training plan. When you open your Stryd mobile app, you'll be able to generate different options, up to three new workouts, as alternatives to today’s scheduled workout.

Generated Alternatives generally consists of three new options:

Easier Alternative: A workout with reduced intensity or duration that still provides training stimulus while allowing for recovery or accommodating fatigue.

Primary Recommendation: The workout Adaptive Training has scheduled based on your training phase, weekly structure, and current fitness level.

Harder Variation: An increased challenge that allows you to push harder when you're feeling strong without compromising your overall training progression.


How It Works

Generated Alternatives analyzes the workout that Adaptive Training created for you and training data to create appropriate options. The system uses your Running Stress Scores, Running Stress Balance, Critical Power, recent training load, and running patterns to generate each alternative. This means every option is tailored to your current fitness level and where you are in your training cycle.

When you select a Generated Alternative, your adaptive training plan stays coherent regardless of which option you choose, so you stay on track even when you need flexibility in your daily training.

The alternatives draw from Stryd's Workout Library and combines expert training knowledge with your personal data. Each workout option is a complete, structured workout—not just a modified version of the same workout. Your Critical Power determines appropriate intensities, your recent training load informs the volume, and your running patterns ensure the workouts match what your body can handle.

Made a mistake or want to restore the original workout?

We have made it easy to swap back to the originally scheduled workout or any of the alternatives.
